We’ve just finished our latest beauty project with Jennifer Hurschler from the OPTION Model Agency who is currently one of the prettiest faces in Switzerland. Makeup artist Lilith Amrad and hairstylist Giuliano Salvatore developed a concept with three different stylings. The jewelry was provided by Barbara Häberli from Niederer Goldschmied.

At the preproduction meeting we’ve discussed the three stylings and the appropriate photographic look. Time budgeting for this project was important. Each of the three stylings took between 2 and 3 hours, so there was only around 20 minutes time left for us to shoot each set.

For beauty shootings the light has to be very precise. We set it up while Jennifer Hurschler got her hair and makeup done. As usual, we use as few strobes as possible to reduce complexity and have a more natural look.

For the red series, we used a red paper background with one strobe aimed at it to receive a slight halo effect. A second strobe with a beauty dish produced a high contrast light with a medium-hard shadow, just like an old movie poster.

The black series was mainly lit by a small softbox with a grid that gives softer shadows than the beauty dish. A second strobe at low power was used as fill light.

For the white series we had a large softbox as main light and a strobe from behind her to produce a direct backlight.
